Casualty Prevention Circular (CPC-1443)

On 3/10/2026, the AAR published Casualty Prevention Circular (CPC-1443) which reports that cracks have been observed in ASTM A194 Grade 6F stainless steel heavy hex nuts when torque is applied in certain applications.
These parts were supplied by Fastenal and produced with manufacturer code “WL.”
The affected nuts sizes include:
• 5/8”
• 1”
• 1-1/8”
If you have tank car components using these nuts, it may be worth reviewing inventory or installations to ensure they are not impacted. Any questions about these products should be directed to Fastenal.
