Destructive Testing
NEW SERVICE!
AllTranstek, long recognized as the industry leader in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), is excited to announce the launch of their new Destructive Testing service.
NDT has been an innovative way to assess various aspects of a railcar’s structural integrity in a safe, thorough, and responsible manner that avoids damaging the equipment being inspected. This has worked well for a number of years, but recognizing the challenges companies face to spend more money and to retain new talent as Millennials enter the workforce with heightened expectations, AllTranstek is blazing new trails to meet these needs.

Money to Burn
With the uptick in the economy, many companies are looking for a way to spend their newfound money. While NDT is a wonderful preventative measure, many question “what would have happened”? Destructive Testing answers that question and finds an exciting way to spend that money real fast. “So some guys on a little cable show challenged us to see if we could get a tank car to implode,” said Larry Loman, AllTranstek Director of Engineering and resident Beer Meister. “We said, absolutely! We lined up a car that NDT inspection told us was perfectly good, and then we put it to the test. Flatting that beast was a serious chore… and it turns out that the car was in great shape to start with. The car can’t be used anymore, but now we know that it WAS good.” |

The Age of the Millennials
The youth entering the workforce today have heightened expectations over past generations. Work needs to be exciting, and it needs to keep up with the fast-passed tempo that social media and on-line gaming provide. Destructive Testing does both. Says Jim Dinell, AllTranstek’s Vice President of Technical Services, “I’ve dedicated my life to NDT, which is really depressing, but the ability to get out there and blow stuff up in support of my life’s work, now THAT’S a rush!” “When we have one of our younger trainees helping us destroy a tank car, we’re always sure to emphasize that the key to doing it right is to not look back at the explosion as you walk away. That’s what the cameras are for and why we’re trying to line up Michael Bay for this work. They come in here thinking they’re all bad with their Pac-Man and their Fortnite video games, but part of that tank car catches air and they learn what it's like to do it old school real fast.” |
